Saudi Arabia’s Jubail Commercial Port is to receive 6 rail mounted gantry (RMG) cranes from Liebherr Container Cranes (LCC). Part of the Switzerland based Liebherr Group, LCC provides purpose-planned cargo handling using the latest technologies, usually to the UK and Europe. This will be its first delivery of RMG cranes to the Middle East.
The cranes span 14 containers wide, and stack up to 6 containers high. Safe working load is 40 tonnes. LCC’s sales and marketing manager, Gerry Bunyan, said the order marked a further expansion of the group’s product range in the region. “Traditionally Liebherr have supplied RMGs to intermodal and port terminals in Ireland, UK and in Europe,” he said.
The order was placed by Sinopec E&C Middle East Co. Ltd. on behalf of the Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC).
Jubail Commercial Port is located on the east coast of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, overlooking the Arabian Gulf, 80 km north of the city of Dammam. A rail link between Jubail commercial Port and Damman is proposed to form part of the Saudi Landbridge Project. When complete, the Landbridge Project Railway will connect Jeddeh on the Red Sea Coast with Riyadh, the Saudi capital.
