Abu Dhabi’s Railway Network to Aid Non Oil Economy
The Emirate of Abu Dhabi’s non oil exports grew by 11.5% year on year to 2014. This is largely down to its move to become a regional logistics hub, with its sea port and airport handling very large quantities of cargo and freight as it transits around the world. The new Etihad railway system will play a key role in this, both expanding the Emirate’s reach to other countries in the region, and easing congestion as goods move by rail instead of road between hubs.
The new Etihad Railway Network will link the UAE’s borders and all the Emirates by rail. Abu Dhabi stands to benefit from this connectivity in particular as it has one of the biggest sea ports in the region at Khalifa, as well as a major air freight hub nearby in Abu Dhabi International Airport.
Logistics operations are only as good as their links. The new railway linking the sea and airport with the rest of the GCC region via the GCC Railway Network will significantly improve the competitiveness of the Emirate as a world leader in logistics.
