Etihad Signs Memorandum of Understanding with Hellmann for UAE Rail

Etihad Rail has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Hellmann Worldwide Logistics (Hellmann) to allow Hellmann to use the rail network in the UAE. Hellmann will use the GCC rail network to bring flexibility to its customers throughout the Middle East, many of whom use Dubai as a regional base.

Madhav Kurup, CEO of Hellmann Middle East said “rail is a clear means for us to enhance the efficiency of our services.” H.E. Dr. Nasser Al Mansoori, CEO of Etihad Rail said the new rail network would bring another option for logistics in the region, which will be of substantial benefit for local, regional and international business.

The 1,200 km GCC wide rail network will carry both freight and passengers, connecting up remote areas across the UAE, and linking to Saudi Arabia and Oman, facilitating cross-border commerce and travel.

Phase One of the Etihad Rail network from Shah and Habshan to Ruwais port is on target to be commissioned at the end of the year.

Hellmann is one of the world’s largest family-run businesses, having grown from a one-man company in 1871. Both Hellmann and Etihad are committed to working in sustainable ways, sympathetic to the needs of the environment.
