Kuwait to Build New Railway Network “Soon”
According to officials, Kuwait is in early planning of its new national railway network. The country is the very last of all the GCC countries to get going on its network, which will form part of the six nation GCC Railway Network.
The Kuwaiti railway system will connect Kuwait City with Saudi Arabia and from there on to the rest of the GCC, and the planned link will be completed by the end of 2018 as part of Kuwait’s commitment to the wider supranational project.
The Kuwait railway will connect to Saudi Arabia, and a branch line from there will head across a new causeway to Bahrain, while the main line will go through Qatar, the UAE and on to Muscat in Oman. It is envisaged that long term, there may well be links onward to the Iraqi border from Kuwait and to the Yemeni border from Muscat.
Kuwait is the last country of all the member states to begin progress with the design and construction of its part of the network, with other countries being well advanced in construction.
