Etihad Rail Signs Memorandum With Aramex
Etihad Rail has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Aramex, the global logistics and transportation solutions provider.
Aramex will use the rail network for deliveries once the service is operational, giving them straightforward intermodal transport opportunities, and reduced cross-border logistics costs.
The planned UAE National Rail Network will change the face of trade in the region. Across the Gulf region, UAE will be connected to Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Kuwait. Eventually, links will extend to European networks via Turkey.
The Memorandum was signed by Shadi Malek, Executive Director of Commercial at Etihad Rail and Hussain Wehbe, General Manager – UAE at Amarex.
Hussain Wehbe said that the agreement will give Amarex a strategic competitive advantage in the region. Shadi Malek said rail is a preferred mode of transport in the logistics industry, because it delivers safety, efficiency, and environmental benefits, and that Etihad looks forward to working closely with Aramex to deliver their customers’ goods.
Stage One of the Network linking Shah and Habshan to Ruwais is already under construction, Stage two is currently in the tendering process and is projected to be operational in 2017, and Stage 3 in 2018.
