Qualifying Bids Received for Preliminary Design Consultancy on Oman National Railway

Contracts for consultancy services covering preliminary design of Oman’s national railway project resulted in 12 bids being received, which have been whittled down to the 3 qualifying bids from the National Engineering Office, Italian State Railways group Italferr, and DB International, German engineering consultants.

The bids relate to consultancy services for the preliminary design of Oman’s national railway project, which forms the centre of the country’s strategic drive for GDP growth, social development, and GCC integration. The chosen winning bid will provide the provisional design for infrastructure and systems on the 1000 km project, linking Buraimi in the north with Salalah in the south.

Ultimately, passengers and freight will be carried on the network with passengers travelling up to 200 km/h along the standard gauge double track on diesel trains.

The Preliminary Design Consultant will oversee track works, civil works, tunnels structures and systems.

Further tender documents for the Project Management Consultancy services continue to be distributed until 11 July and bids will be opened on 29 July 2013 for this contract element.
