Doha and London Jointly Launch Institute for Infrastructure Studies

An international collaboration between the UK and the Middle East aims to become the global centre of excellence for research into the appraisal and management of risks in complex infrastructure projects.

The Institute for Infrastructure Studies (IIS) was launched jointly by Mayor of London Boris Johnson, HM Ambassador Michael O’Neill CMG, and senior officials from Qatar and the wider Gulf community. As well as undertaking original research and commissioned studies, the Institute will house a data centre and library, providing investors, lenders and insurers a consistent risk evaluation methodology. Emerging trends in project performance, programme management and finance will be made available. The library and research staff will be located in Doha.

British Consulting, an infrastructure project delivery firm has set up the IIS, with support from the Financial Centre Authority (QFC Authority). Ian Kennedy of British Consulting said:

“This Institute will tackle public and freight transportation systems, ports, social infrastructure and stadia and we look forward to working with and for governments, financial and investment institutions and sponsors of large complex projects to find practical solutions to the funding and management of this increasingly desirable asset class.”

Mayor of London Boris Johnson welcomed the initiative to share vital knowledge and industry expertise.
