Anti-Corruption Commission Investigates Saudi Railway Organization

Nazaha, the National Anti-Corruption Commission, has announced it is investigating possible corruption in relation to 3 contracts worth more than SAR429m signed by the Saudi Railway Organization and a contractor. The case relates to the failure to install safety, signalling and communications systems which had been contracted for as long ago as 2005.

The Commission said the failure to fulfil the contracts had impacted on safety and resulted in accidents. It also said there was evidence to suggest financial and administrative corruption, and the abuse of public funds and resources, because regulatory conditions relating to the signing of the second contract were not observed. A team of experts is reviewing the reasons for the failure to complete the projects.

The Saudi Railway Organization website states the company values as honesty, teamwork, responsibility and proficiency.

Hamad Abdel Qader, Deputy Chief of Operations at the Saudi Railway Organization said they would be responding to the allegations in full.

The National Anti-Corruption Commission is “Working on protecting integrity and combating corruption in the bodies within the Commission’s specializations, to create work environment of integrity, transparency, honesty, justice and equality in these bodies.”
