Oman Announces Timetable for Rail Network Design and Build Tenders

The Oman government has announced a timetable for design and build tenders in the coming months.

The Sultanate is building a 2000 km rail network which will link the Yemen border with the UAE, and the Gulf inland to the Indian Ocean when complete by 2018. It is hoped that this railway construction project will significantly boost Oman’s economy by attracting business and industry.

The Design and Build of Railway Infrastructure and Track tender will cover earthworks, bridges, tunnels, track, depots, yards and utilities for the new network.

Meanwhile, the Design and Build of Railway Technology Systems will cover signalling, telecommunications, an operations centre, power supply, security and other systems required to make the network operational.

The deadlines for application for both tenders are as follows. Tender documents were available to purchase until the 16/2/14. Prequalification for tenders will be announced on the 16/3/14. A Clarification Meeting will be held on the 19/3/14 and all clarifications have to be made by the 20th March. The final submission date for tenders will be the 15th April.
