4th Annual Middle East Rail Opportunities to commence on 6th May 2013

Over the last decade, the Middle East region has seen a substantial increase in the number of rail projects that have been established. There has been an investment of over billions of dollars across the GCC for constructing the railway line connecting major countries across the region. Saudi Arabia alone is constructing a speed line, monorail, the North-South railway project with many others in the pipeline. Exploring the best practices from leading transport organizations in the Middle East and internationally, the 4th Annual Middle East Rail Opportunities commences today at Four Points by Sheraton (Formerly MENA Grand Khaldia Hotel), Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The conference is supported by Saudi Railway Company (SAR).
The summit highlights the rail infrastructure across the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and case studies of successful railway networks. Chaired by Dr. Shahid Khan from Saudi Bin Laden Group, day one saw the opening session delivered by Abdullah Balhaddad, Vice President, Member of Railway Land Bridge Project Steering Committee from Saudi Railways Organization. Balhaddad presentation on ‘Safety Technology in Railways’ highlighted the importantance of safety at the time where the GCC countries are starting to construct their railways in a challenge with the gulf environment.
Eng. Abdullah Almotawa, Director at Arriyadh Development Authority, addressed the attendees on ‘Building the Riyadh Metro Network’. The presentation focused on metro network across KSA and economic feasibility of the rail-road network. Liu Gang, Director / International Business Division representing CNR Changchun Railway Vehicles Co. Ltd (CNRCRC), China spoke about ‘Deploying fully automated operations & best maintenance strategy for Asia’s Metros’. CNRCRC along with T-Track are the Platinum Sponsors for the conference. The conference also saw Eng. Hamad Bin Yousef of Saudi Railway Company addressing the audience on ‘Integrating the Railway Engineering Structure’.
As the day progressed, Edoardo La Ficara representing Ansaldo STS is scheduled to throw light on ‘Metro and railway custom made solutions’. He will discuss about the success of the Riyadh Princess Noura University driverless metro. Amongst other topics covered, the summit will also delve into the ‘GCC Railway Network and the Role of Regulation’ by John Thomas and Ahmed Al Musawa Al Hashemi from Etihad Rail.
