GEFCO Logistics Opens Dubai HQ
French logistics group GEFCO, which is 75% owned by Russian Railways has opened an office in Dubai, which it says reflects a strategic and adventurous move to establish a presence in the region.
The group is undertaking an ambitious expansion into high-growth markets around the world, which it hopes will drive growth for the company, with plans to invest more than $10m into the UAE over the next two years.
The Dubai office, located inside the Jebel Ali Freezone Area (JAFZA), will be the Middle East Headquarters for the Group, which used to be owned by Peugeot Citroen, but was acquired by Russian Railways (RZD) in a $1.05m deal. Steffano Pollotti, GEFCOs UAE country manager said he believed opening the office in UAE demonstrates the groups commitment to the region.
“We remain highly confident in this key move to establish our presence and have even started to mull the possibilities of opening offices in Saudi Arabia, Oman and Qatar.” He said.
The group are expected to appoint some 15 new employees to operate the office, which will handle all back office operations for logistics in the region.
