High Speed Rail At 1,000 Km Per Hour!

Trains could run at 1,000 km per hour within 10 to 15 years. That’s the astonishing claim of Boaz Almog, a scientist from the Physics and Astronomy Department of Tel Aviv University.

Using superconductors made of ceramic compound and weighing only half a micron, Almog demonstrated quantum locking and quantum levitation during a visit to the Indian Institute of Technology at Kanpur. Superconductors can lift up to 70,000 times their own weight, allowing trains to run along tracks with zero friction and zero energy loss. This remarkable technology could mean that rail transport would not only be faster, but actually cheaper and carbon-neutral.

Although the principle behind quantum levitation has been known about since the 1930′s, the technology is only at the experimental stage right now, but Almog is certain that the future will see practical applications.

“Superconductors conduct electricity without dissipation. Superconductors on sapphire fibres carry 40 times more electricity than copper,” he said.

Almog explained that this would allow trains to travel along tracks at presently unimaginable speeds.

“It may take some 10-15 years for this to happen but this is very much possible with the application of laws of quantum levitation,” he continued.
